Day 9 (January 2) – Nine Ladies Dancing
Theme: The Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23)
Opening Prayer
Gather as a family or individually. Light a white candle.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Holy Spirit, divine Consoler, fill us with Your joy and peace.
Produce in us abundant fruit that glorifies the Father and draws others to Christ.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Father,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Scripture Reading
Read slowly and prayerfully:
Galatians 5:16–25 (selected verses)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law... If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”
Reflection
The ninth gift from our True Love (God) is nine ladies dancing, symbolizing the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
- These elegant dancers represent the grace, beauty, harmony, and joyful celebration that flow from a Spirit-filled life – moving in perfect rhythm with God's will.
- These fruits are the visible signs of holiness, making our lives attractive witnesses to the Gospel.
Questions for Personal or Family Reflection
- Which fruit of the Spirit is most evident in my life right now, and which one needs more cultivation?
- How does living these fruits bring joyful "dance" into everyday challenges?
- Who in my life exemplifies these fruits, and how can I learn from them?
Practical Activities for Catholics
- Examine the Fruits
As a family or individually, go through the list of nine fruits. Share one example of how you've seen or experienced each one recently.
- Sing Together
Sing the first nine verses of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”:
“On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Nine ladies dancing, eight maids a-milking, seven swans a-swimming... five golden rings...”
Follow with a joyful hymn like “Rejoice in the Lord Always” or dance playfully to sacred music.
- Act of Charity
Practice one of the fruits deliberately today: show kindness to a stranger, exercise patience in traffic, or offer gentle words to someone upset.
- Closing Prayer – Prayer for Day 9
O Holy Spirit, Master of the dance of grace,
Thank You for the beautiful nine fruits You produce in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Like nine ladies dancing in harmony,
let these fruits flourish in my soul,
bringing glory to God and joy to those around me.
Fill me afresh today and make my life a celebration of Your presence.
Mary, full of grace, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
May the fruits of the Spirit bring joyful rhythm to your day!
Tomorrow: Ten Lords A-Leaping.
