Day 6 (December 30) – Six Geese A-Laying

Theme: The Six Days of Creation (Genesis 1)

The six geese a-laying symbolizing fruitful creation

Opening Prayer

Gather as a family or individually. Light a white or green candle (for creation).

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, who wonderfully created the universe and even more wonderfully restored it through Your Son,
grant us the grace to marvel at Your works and to care for the gift of creation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading

Read slowly and prayerfully:

Genesis 1:1–31 (selected highlights)
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth... God called the dry land Earth, and the waters... He made the stars also... God created man in his own image... And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”

Reflection

The sixth gift from our True Love (God) is six geese a-laying, symbolizing the six days of creation described in Genesis 1.

All creation sings God’s glory and points to the Creator. Through the Incarnation, the Word who was with God in the beginning (John 1:1–3) became flesh to redeem what sin had wounded.

Questions for Personal or Family Reflection

  1. When I look at the beauty of nature (stars, animals, people), how does it stir gratitude for God's creative power?
  2. Being made in God's image, how am I called to "lay eggs" – to be fruitful in good works and share life?
  3. Where have I taken creation for granted, and how can I better steward the earth?

Practical Activities for Catholics

  1. Contemplate Creation
Spend time outdoors or viewing nature photos. Thank God specifically for something from each of the six days of creation.
  2. Sing Together
Sing the first six verses of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”:
“On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Six geese a-laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.”
Follow with “All Creatures of Our God and King” or the Canticle of the Three Young Men (Daniel 3:57–88).
  3. Act of Charity
Care for creation: pick up litter, conserve water/electricity, plant something, or support a Laudato Si’ initiative.
  4. Closing Prayer – Prayer for Day 6
    O Almighty Creator,
Thank You for the fruitful gift of the six days of creation,
like six geese a-laying abundant life and beauty.
Fill me with wonder at Your works,
especially the dignity of being made in Your image.
Help me to rest in You as on the seventh day,
and to bring forth good fruit for Your glory.
Mary, Queen of Creation, pray for us.
    Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

May the fruitfulness of creation inspire you today!
Tomorrow: Seven Swans A-Swimming.
